TNC preserve - along cliff edge is a narrow band of table mt. & pitch pine. Below cliffs are extensive boulder fields. Hemlock on opposing aspect is mostly dead from adelgid infestation.;Dry ridgetop on sandstone just back from cliff. Subrate of sandstone boulders with heavy lichen cover where not covered by leaf litter. Forest strongly dominated by Chestnut Oak of variouse size (age) classes. Canopy height of even largest trees is under ~ 15m, typical for dry ridges. Ericaead shrub layer and almost no herbs.
Representativeness
Large patch or matrix forest on very rocky soils on ridgetop. Placed plot to include shrub layer - rockier spots have less shrub cover.
